Free Range Science at the Natimuk Frinj!

What’s the deal with nanotechnology?  What’s the secret to kicking a perfect goal?  Why does good food taste great?  If you’ve ever wondered about the big – or small – questions, then Free Range Science is for you.

The RiAus Free Range Science project will be bringing science and scientists out of the lab and into the towns of regional Victoria.  Designed specifically for people without a science background, Free Range Science puts you directly in touch with the people who research, design, create and use the sciences and technologies which power our lives.

Science fiction to science fact

Advances in science and technology speed along at such a rate it can be hard to know exactly how to separate the plausible, possible or predictive, from the cold hard facts.

While much of the fiction remains just that (at least for now!), other ideas have been strangely prophetic. In fact, some of the science facts we take for granted started life as imaginative musings in novels and pulp fiction mags.

Join a best-selling sci-fi author Jack Dann and astronomer and popular-science writer Fred Watson as they explore how science and science fiction borrow from each other to entertain and to expand knowledge of the universe.

This event is free of charge but booking is required

RiAus (The Royal Institution of Australia)

RiAus brings science to people and people to science. It creates real and virtual spaces in which people can listen, talk and think about science in all its shapes and forms, and develop innovative and accessible ways of engaging the general community. It sets out to raise scientific awareness and the level of debate on critical issues around science and technology. RiAus strives to highlight the importance of science in everyday life.
